LG, Google Deepen Cooperation by Signing Cross-Licensing Deal
November 07, 2014

LG, who has helped make Google's Nexus smartphones, has reached a cross-licensing agreement with Google to share both companies' existing patents and any to be filed over the next 10 years, reported Korea's Chosun Ilbo on November 6. Under the agreement, LG will open its mobile communication patents to Google in exchange of the right to freely use Google's patents for its Android operating system. It is reportedly that LG has seized the largest share—129, or 29%—of the 447 LTE (Long Term Evolution) standard essential patents so far registered in the USPTO (U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) and European Patent Office.
